Tempur-Pedic Mattress Warranty Length

All Tempur-Pedic mattresses have a 10-year limited warranty. This length is around standard for the mattress industry and reflects the expected lifespan of your bed.

Please note that the Tempurpedic mattress warranty length changed on March 1st, 2014. If you bought a mattress before this date, the warranty length is 25 years. We will explain more about the previous Tempur-Pedic mattress warranty for people with older models later in the article.

Tempur-Pedic Warranty Validity

The TempurPedic mattress warranty is non-transferable and only covers the person who originally bought the mattress from the purchase date. It’s only valid if you buy the mattress directly from Tempur-Pedic or one of its authorized sellers. Therefore, you won’t have warranty coverage if you buy a Tempur-Pedic mattress second-hand.

If you didn’t buy the mattress from Tempur-Pedic, you should keep your proof of purchase. If you want to claim under warranty, Tempur-Pedic will ask to see your receipt to prove that you bought it from an authorized seller. You should also keep the law tag that came with your mattress.

Tempur-Pedic states that you must place your mattress on a firm, stable, and supportive foundation or adjustable bed base. While you don’t have to use a Tempur-Pedic frame, you should check that any frame you use meets Tempur-Pedic’s standards if you choose to buy a different brand. If you don’t use a proper foundation, your warranty may be void, as stated in the warranty policy. This is because inadequate support can cause sagging and other damage to the mattress.

You should not use a spring foundation or use the mattress on the floor or a waterbed foundation. The frame must have central support and a minimum of 5-6 legs for a queen-sized bed or larger. Tempur-Pedic may ask to see proof of the type of foundation you have to check it is suitable before honoring a warranty claim.

How To Make Tempurpedic Warranty Claim?

So let’s begin by establishing what you need to do in the unlikely event that you need to make a Tempurpedic warranty  claim.

First of all, as with any major purchase, you must keep the proof of purchase document that you will have been given when you bought your Tempur-Pedic product in a safe place. For example, in your fireproof home safe, or in your grab and go bag if you live in an area where you may be subject to fire, hurricane, flooding, or other natural disasters. (It’s a good idea to take a photocopy and give it to a friend or relative – this is a great idea for all important documents – just in case.)

Secondly, you can register your product with Tempur-Pedic. That means that you won’t need to show that proof of purchase or receipt, as Tempur-Pedic will have your information right there on file for you in the unlikely event that you might have to make a warranty claim.

Remember that you are only covered by a warranty if you buy your product from an authorized Tempur-Pedic dealer or direct from Tempur-Pedic. That’s another great reason to always buy from a tried and trusted source, a source that not only ensures that you have that valuable warranty, but one that can advise you as to exactly the right mattress and accessories for your sleeping needs.

If you need to make a claim, once you have your proof of purchase information, there are a few simple steps that you should follow.

First, Tempur-Pedic is going to need to know what kind of frame you used for your mattress. It’s good if you can send them a few pictures, with and without the mattress if possible. Is it a wooden frame, a power base, a frame made of metal, or some other kind of frame? This is going to make it easier for them to process your warranty claim.

Next, take a look at your mattress for the tag that has the legal information about what the mattress is made from. On this tag you will find a date of manufacture as well as a registry number. You’ll need both of these pieces of information for your warranty claim.

Finally, take some photographs of the defect that has led you to make this warranty claim. Naturally, you should make these pictures as clear and as helpful as you possibly can.

It may be that you are making a warranty claim on a “retired” mattress model. Yes, Tempur-Pedic even covers mattresses that they no longer make. If they decide to replace your mattress, they are going to offer you the one that they consider to be closest to your original mattress from their current range of models. However, they do offer you the option of upgrading your mattress, but this would be at an extra fee. You need to decide which of these two options you are going to take and if it’s going to be an upgrade, which mattress you are going to choose.

Now that you have all your information collected together, you are ready to file your claim. You can do this online, or you can call 1-800-821-6621, where helpful customer service staff will provide you with the email address that you will need to file your claim.

Once you have filed a claim, you should get a very speedy response. You can check on the progress of your claim online.

So let’s take a look at those warranties in greater detail, to find out what they do and don’t cover.

The Legal Stuff

A warranty is a legal document, and so it’s written in very precise and specialized legal language. If you really want to know the ins and outs of your warranty, then you can find the full legal information on the Tempur-Pedic site. Here we have tried to explain what you are and are not entitled to under your warranty in everyday common sense language.

Warranty Information Simplified –The Kinds Of Things That Are Covered

A warranty is designed to protect you from faulty manufacturing. For example, let’s say that some springs were made from slightly sub-standard material that wasn’t noticed in the manufacturing process. (Unlikely, but we are just supposing here.) Over time, the springs wear out more quickly than they should, leading to a sagging bed. This is the kind of situation that your warranty will cover. The manufacturer got something wrong at the production stage, and the bed mattress didn’t perform as promised.

Another example might be that the zip on your mattress cover broke. If it happens within the lifetime of the warranty, then you would be able to make a successful claim.

Warranty Information Simplified – The Kinds of Things That Are Not Covered

On the other hand, if you had a king-sized mattress that was only supported by a rather flimsy, lightweight bed frame, then this goes against the manufacturer’s recommendation, and any faults that developed in the mattress would be due to your having not used it correctly. This kind of claim won’t be covered by your warranty.

Equally, if you are smoking in bed and drift off to sleep, and get a cigarette burn on your mattress, this is due to you being a bit stupid and is no fault of the manufacturer. This kind of claim is not covered by a warranty.

Another important issue is that you must have taken care of your mattress. If the mattress is in an unhygienic condition, for example, it’s very dirty or (heaven forbid!) has bed bugs, then your warranty will not cover you for any kind of product failure. So this is yet another reason to make sure that your mattress is always kept clean and in good condition.

Who Can Offer Me Tempurpedic Mattress Warranty Cover?

We have already mentioned that you must have purchased your mattress from Tempur-Pedic themselves or from a recognized and authorized dealer. Mattresses bought second hand on e-bay, Craig’s list, or from an ad on your notice board at work will not come with a warranty. The warranty only belongs to the original owner. It also only belongs to an owner who has bought the bed from a recognized supplier.

Do Discounted Products Get Cover?

Another exception is mattresses that are purchased as returns at a discounted price, even if purchased from Tempur-Pedic or one of its recognized dealers. These mattresses are effectively second-hand, even if reconditioned or in good-as-new condition, and will not, sadly, be covered by warranty.

Another exception is items purchased as floor or display models, almost always at a substantial discount. These will almost certainly not be covered by any kind of warranty. It’s always worth contact Tempur-Pedic though if you feel you have a real case of a manufacturing issue.

Things That You Have To Do To Make Sure You Are Covered

One thing that it’s very important to understand is that Tempur-Pedic warranties for mattresses are only valid if you have been using your mattress with the correct kind of base. Of course, if you have been using the appropriate Tempur-Pedic base for your mattress then there is no problem. Not all users do this, and so, the kind of frame that you have been using will come into consideration.

Tempur-Pedic expects that the frame will be of good construction and be capable of supporting the mattress well. This means for a Queen, King, or Californian King mattress the bed frame should have at least five or six supporting legs as well as a central supporting structure. Twin beds must have at least four legs to support the weight of the mattress. Supporting slats must be sufficient in number and strong enough to support the mattress. Box springs should be substantial and well made.

If you can’t demonstrate that the frame you have been using for your bed is the right strength and quality, then your warranty claim will fail. After all, Tempur-Pedic mattresses are made to high standards, but they must be used properly. Mattresses should never be used directly on the floor, or on a waterbed. Just about as bad is having a mattress supported by untreated wood – this will also invalidate your warranty. Tempur-Pedic can offer you advice as to the best-designed bed frames, and it’s sensible to follow their advice, not least because this will give your mattress long life, and you will enjoy the best support from it.

I Am Using My Tempur-Pedic Product In My Business – Am I Covered?

It sometimes isn’t realized that a warranty is only good for domestic use. If you are using a Tempur-Pedic product as part of your business – say you have an Air BnB – then your warranty is not valid. You could probably obtain coverage on your business insurance instead.

Hotels can generally deal direct with Tempur-Pedic if they are buying in quantity, and a warranty can be part of the negotiation.

Will My Whole System Be Replaced If Just A Part Of It Is Faulty?

If you have a Sleep system, and one piece is found to be faulty in some way, it’s only that piece that will be repaired or replaced. The other pieces in the system assuming that they are all OK, will not be replaced. This could lead to a mismatch in fabric, as it can’t be guaranteed that repairs and replacements will have the same fabric as your original model.

What If My Tempurpedic Bed No Longer Feels Comfortable?

Other things that you can’t expect to be covered by warranty are the natural softening of a bed that occurs with wear. This is not the same as a spring failure that can be measured and is usually covered. If your bed softens up a bit, that is just natural use!

Also not covered is the situation where you no longer find your bed to be comfortable. As Tempur-Pedic offers a generous trial period, you can decide at an early stage if your mattress is to your liking. A few years down the line, if it no longer suits you – well, that isn’t covered.

Will My Tempur-Pedic Bed Or Mattress Be Replaced Or Repaired?

It’s up to Tempur-Pedic to decide whether to repair or replace any faulty items and this depends on how easy it will be to make a good repair that will be acceptable to you, the customer. You can of course press your point if you feel that a replacement is justified, but in the end, the decision is Tempur-Pedic’s. However, as a big company with a reputation to protect, they are generally very reasonable in dealing with warranty claims – they want you to be happy!

The Bottom Line

There’s no doubting the outstanding quality of the Tempur-Pedic mattress range. While most customers never experience any problems with their new beds, it’s good to know that you’re protected if your mattress is faulty.

The Tempur-Pedic mattress warranty offers a decent level of coverage and provides peace of mind. Although the 10-year length is average in the mattress industry, it covers indentations as shallow as 0.75 inches. Therefore, you have protection against even slight sagging, the most common durability complaint with memory foam mattresses. Tempur-Pedic has a good reputation for honoring its warranty policy fairly, so you don’t need to worry about being fobbed off if you discover a problem.

Please bear in mind that you are liable to pay any transportation fees when you claim on a Tempur-Pedic warranty, unlike some other mattress companies. These costs can be considerable, so you should factor this in before you buy it.

Overall, we feel that the Tempur-Pedic mattress warranty terms and coverage are fair and adequate. While the warranty isn’t the best we’ve seen, it should protect you for the lifetime of your mattress. Before you buy any new bed, including a Tempur-Pedic, take time to check the features, reviews, and warranty terms carefully to make sure you’re getting the right mattress for you.
